Nature Center

Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest

The Northern Highland American Legion (NHAL) State Forest has a nature center at the Crystal Lake Campground picnic area that includes a variety of educational displays and activities for the entire family. Within the NHAL, there are also five interpretive trails for those who would like to take a self-guided tour of the forest landscape. The trails traverse varied terrain and expose visitors to a wide range of natural habitats.

The nature center is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Volunteer hosts will be on duty in the nature center to share educational information with visitors. In addition to the daily activities at the nature center, there are also family nature programs, kids programs, and information sessions with our foresters and conservation wardens. All of our programming is free and open to the public. A state park vehicle sticker is required. Children 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Programs

Programs are free and open to the public. However, a state park sticker is required on your vehicle for those programs located within the campgrounds. Children 10 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult. For programs requiring pre-registration, you must do so by noon on the day prior to the program.
