CLEAN - Bureau for Remediation and Redevelopment Tracking System (BRRTS) on the Web
The Bureau for Remediation and Redevelopment Tracking System (BRRTS) on the Web (BOTW) is the DNR’s on-line database that provides information about contaminated properties and other activities related to the investigation and cleanup of contaminated soil or groundwater in Wisconsin. The database is part of the DNR’s Contaminated Lands Environmental Action Network (CLEAN), an inter-linked network of DNR databases tracking information on different contaminated land activities.
The database includes (but is not limited to) the following contamination data:
- investigations and cleanups of contaminated soil and/or groundwater;
- Superfund sites; and
- DNR funding assistance.
You can also view information from BRRTS on the Web (BOTW) via the RR Program’s map-based system, the RR Sites Map.

A copy of all of the records in the BRRTS on the Web database is available in the zip file below, which contains multiple tab-delimited text files. Additional information can be found in a "read me" file contained within the zip file.The DNR updates this archive file approximately every three months.

Please use the links under the "BOTW resources" menu on the right side of this web page, where you will find database help, a glossary and disclaimers.
The Activity Detail pages provide links to the Petroleum Environmental Cleanup Fund Award (PECFA) Tracker database, to the DNR Solid and Hazardous Waste database (SHWIMS) and to the DNR map-based RR Sites Map.
To contact DNR staff assigned to an activity, click on the project manager's name on the Activity Details page (you must have an email client installed on your computer, such as Microsoft Outlook). You may also look for our DNR Remediation & Redevelopment staff County Contacts.
BRRTS includes some locations where an environmental investigation has found contamination with little or no impact to human health and the environment, or no contamination at all. These entries may be found under three different Activity types: Abandoned Containers, No RR Action Required and some activities under General Property.
For information related to potential health impacts from contaminated sites, please see Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Environmental Health Resources. It includes toxic chemical fact sheets.
