Job Description: 75% Work with staff from the Bureau of Waste and Materials Management, DNR regional waste management programs and Office of Communication to write and produce informational print and Internet communications for both internal and external audiences. This responsibility includes planning, writing, editing, producing and distributing print and online public information materials, recognizing and pursuing special opportunities to deliver messages to a variety of audiences, working with others to plan appropriate information and choice of media, and reviewing content and formats for others.

Evaluate and improve existing and proposed DNR multi-media waste management and reduction outreach materials. Work with businesses, trade organizations, local governments and other organizations involved in waste management to improve these materials and create new materials for them, using a wide variety of media such as the Internet/World Wide Web, news articles, brochures, newsletters, flyers and others. Build partnerships with target audiences that will share responsibility for the quality and distribution of this information statewide.

Develop print and electronic informational materials for the general public, businesses, trade organizations, local governments and other organizations involved in recycling to encourage recycling and waste reduction. Consult with, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the department's waste reduction and recycling education and outreach coordinator, public affairs managers, recycling program coordinator and other key recycling and waste reduction program staff. Attend and be an active member of the cross-division Recycling Team in face-to-face meetings and conference calls.

Assist Waste and Materials Management's development, assessment and updating of web pages on waste management and reduction by recommending content, links and revisions and by assisting with web page updates and revisions.
10% Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of recycling outreach materials in meeting external communication requirements of federal and state law, public education and department policy, and the 1990 Solid Waste Reduction, Recovery and Recycling Law (as subsequently amended).
10% Assist the Waste & Materials Management Program with the establishment and management of a Waste & Materials Management Stakeholder Group.
5% Attend Bureau staff meetings, other team meetings and complete administrative tasks as necessary.

Knowledge Required: Proficiency with Associated Press Stylebook for news writing. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and experience with writing for the web and experience with or ability to quickly learn Dreamweaver or other web design software and HTML or other web programming languages. Knowledge of social marketing techniques; product stewardship; waste reduction, reuse and recycling issues; and general knowledge of natural resource issues.
