Job Description:

LTE - Fisheries Technician

The LTE - Fisheries Technician with our Peshtigo Fisheries Team (Green Bay) will support fisheries management priorities in northeast Wisconsin. The principle work area will be Brown and Manitowoc counties including lower Green Bay waters. This position will work with our Team members to complete various fisheries surveys, record and process related data and aging structures, and maintain equipment and supplies. This position will require working outside and in a variety of weather conditions.

60% - Complete fishery surveys using various assessment materials including fyke nets, electrofishing gear and seines. Maintain and operate all WDNR equipment, boats and vehicles in a safe manner according to applicable WDNR and state manual codes. Accurately record data in the field on appropriate forms following WDNR protocols. Assist with various other species specific surveys for walleye, muskellunge, perch and lake sturgeon, as needed.

30% Accurately and efficiently process data collected on paper and scale envelopes, collate data with proper training, enter survey data into WDNR database as required and according to WDNR standards. Collect and prepare scales, spines, and otoliths for age interpretation.

10% Perform other tasks necessary to meet project and planning needs and/ or other duties assigned including operating Department vehicles, boats, and equipment necessary to meet project needs as well as other assigned duties including routine maintenance of equipment and supplies, and upkeep of work area.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills
- Able and willing to work in outside in possible inclement weather conditions
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Knowledge of Wisconsin fish species and their management
- Excellent team support skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Completed fisheries course work at a college/university
- Previous volunteer or work experience in fisheries management
- Knowledge of boat operation and maintenance
