LTE - Fisheries Technician - Advanced
This position will independently perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on Nagawicka Lake in Waukesha County. This involves interviewing anglers at shore fishing locations and boat launch; recording data; as well as identifying, measuring, and weighing fish caught by anglers. The Fisheries Technician will be responsible for compiling and analyzing data and preparing written documentation and/or reports regarding the creel survey. This position will require some early morning and evening work. It also requires working all weekends and holidays.
70% - Independently perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on Nagawicka Lake in Waukesha County. Identify, measure, and weigh fish caught; interview anglers; record data.
20% - Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports.
10% - Assist with training other LTE Fisheries Technicians in performing creel survey duties.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of common Wisconsin fish species
- Ability to accurately identify common Wisconsin fish to species name
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to safely to approach anglers where they commonly fish
- Must be willing to work in inclement weather
- Must be able to work early mornings, evenings and all weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fisheries related degree or college coursework
- Volunteer or work experience related to fisheries
