Job Description: Wildlife Technician - LTE

The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Wildlife Technician stationed in the Navarino Field Office!

Wildlife Technician will be responsible for habitat work and other management activities on state wildlife areas in Shawano, Outagamie, Waupaca & Winnebago counties.

65% Conduct grassland, wetland and forest wildlife habitat management activities.

25% Maintain and service equipment, including ATVs, UTVs, tractors, mowers, planters, trailers, pumps, etc.

10% Conduct wildlife surveys, assist with duck banding, disease surveillance (CWD), and other wildlife management activities.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Possess general lands maintenance techniques, wildlife and plant identification skills, ability to communicate with property owners, loggers, farm operators, contractors, and conservation agency staff on a practical level.
- General knowledge & aptitude for using hand tools, chain saws, power tools, all-terrain vehicles, tractors, trucks & trailers

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to read & understand detailed land descriptions and conduct land navigational exercises
- Ability to work independently, be a team player, and be a motivated, self-starter with the ability to work with a wide range of people and attitudes.
- Knowledge of chain saw safety, operation and maintenance and may be required to attending training.
- Equipment use certifications

Note: This half time (20 hours/week) position may be hired in conjunction with the Wildlife Technician Advanced position - Job ID 13130 to work full time (40 hours/week). Interested and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for both positions.
