Job Description: Parks and Recreation Specialist - LTE

Parks and Recreation Specialists are responsible for a combination of outdoor maintenance work and customer service for property visitors/campers at the entrance station. Parks and Recreation Specialists operate machinery such as UTV's, ATV's, chainsaws, hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors and other motorized vehicles.

30% Direct and perform the maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards to include mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches, painting, maintaining restrooms and campsites, remove trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and light equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.

30% Direct other team members and assist in the collection of fees and dissemination of information. Work at entrance stations, campgrounds or other visitor contact stations. Use electronic cash registers, electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems. Register campers; sell admission stickers to public. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability.

30% Explain State Park rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events. Manage the Park and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

10% Assist the Park Manager and/or Property Superintendent with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers and any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Must have a valid regular operator's license; a minimum of two years licensed driving experience and must be at least 18 years of age. Must not have received an OWI or DUI violation within the past year, or three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the last two years.
- Familiar with equipment operation and maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow verbal and written instructions and organize and prioritize workload .
- Ability to work in a variety of weather and conditions

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public
- Customer service and cash handling experience
- Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance operations
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
- Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
