Job Description: Fisheries Technician - LTE

This position functions as part of the Les Voigt hatchery / Brule rearing station work unit in the Northern District. The Bayfield/Brule river work unit produces trout and salmon for inland and great lakes stocking. Fish culture operations within the scope of this position are under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor for the work unit with guidance of the Hatchery Foremen. The primary station for this position will be the Brule Rearing Station, but will assist the Les Voigt Hatchery as needed. The Brule rearing Station is an outdoor facility that utilizes an open water source for its fish production. This position will primarily be used to maintain the hatchery grounds, give tours to groups of up to 75 people and maintenance of fish and equipment. This position will require a rotating work schedule including weekends and holidays.

30% Rearing and maintenance of fish and rearing vessels

30% Maintenance of buildings, equipment and facility grounds

30% Public relations, training and miscellaneous activities

10% Disease control and sanitary measures at the facility

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Well qualified applicants will have work experience or formal training in both a natural science (Fisheries, Environmental Science, Biology, etc.) and general facility operations and maintenance (janitorial, grounds and facility maintenance, etc.)
- Applicants must be able to meet all of the requirements of operating a State of Wisconsin vehicle; Valid operator's license, minimum of two years driving experience, at least 18 years of age, no more than 3 moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years, and no Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citations within 12 months.
- Applicant must be a self-starter who is punctual and can work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both co-workers and the public.
- Willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior fisheries experience
- Experience with the use or operation of trucks, pumps, mowers, string trimmers and hand tools.
