Job Description: Parks and Recreation Specialist - LTE

The Parks and Recreation Specialist position performs public safety, maintenance, and visitor services duties, including ensuring public safety through explanation of park rules and regulations, maintenance of park facilities, trails and grounds, selling of park admission stickers, and registering campers.

30% Interact with the public, explain state park rules, regulations and fees to visitors. Manage the park and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

30% Maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform with established standards, including cleaning and maintaining restroom facilities, mowing grass, picking up litter, cleaning public use areas and beaches, painting, removing trees and brush, repairing and maintaining trail surfaces, operating vehicles and light equipment and performing repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.

30% Work at park office or visitor contact station. Collect fees and disseminate information. Use electronic cash registers, electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems. Register campers and sell admission stickers to public. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability.

10% Assist the Park Manager and/or Property Superintendent with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers as assigned. Work with volunteers, assist with special events, and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Wear required uniform and safety equipment, and be a positive representative of the Department
- Must be able to safely operate vehicles and light equipment.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Be a self-starter who is punctual and can work independently as well as with co-workers.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with rule enforcement.
- Prior experience, knowledge and skills in general and preventive maintenance including janitorial, buildings and grounds.
- Prior customer service experience and ability to handle money with accuracy.

In order to operate park motor vehicles and some equipment you must have a valid driver's license, a minimum of two years licensed driving experience, and must be at least 18 years of age. You will be required to attend a Department on-boarding / orientation session prior to your scheduled start date at the property. A one-day property-specific training session may also be required. This position requires weekend and holiday work, as well as varied day and night shifts. Looking for someone to work mid-May through mid to late October. Housing is available at Whitefish Dunes State Park, about 20 miles away.
