Job Description: Parks and Recreation Specialist

This position is responsible for vegetation management of the trail, grounds, and equipment. The position also works closely with volunteer groups and partner organizations.

75% Conduct invasive species control and plant and prune trees. Identify, list, and map existing species. Perform maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards, to include: mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas, remove downed trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.

15% Provide answers to visitor questions about the property and explain State Park rules and regulations and the area's recreational opportunities. Manage the property and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

10% Work with and monitor volunteers and perform any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required: Training and experience in native and invasive species identification and natural history, invasive species treatment methods, operation and preventive maintenance of grounds equipment. Valid driver's license. Position requires operation of truck, utility vehicle, mowers, string trimmers, hand tools, and other grounds equipment. Must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, and dependable. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and public. Must be willing and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in herbicide application (turf and landscape or ROW) prefen-ed.
