Job Description: Parks and Recreation Specialist

This position is responsible for vegetation management of the park, grounds, and equipment. This position works closely with park visitors, volunteer groups, and partner organizations.

65% Conduct invasive species control and plant and prune trees. Identify, list, and map existing species. Perform maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards including, but not limited to: mowing/trimming grass, picking up litter, cleaning public use areas and beaches, painting, removing trees and brush, repairing and maintaining trail surfaces, operating vehicles and light field equipment, and perfom1ing minor equipment and infrastructure repairs and maintenance.

15% Explain State Park rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events and assist with interpretive programs. Manage the Park and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

10% Assist in the dissemination of park information. Use computerized systems to record and track pesticide uses. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park areas and functions, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and boat dock reservation systems.

10% Work with and monitor volunteers performance and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required: Training and experience in native and invasive species identification and natural history, invasive species treatment methods, operation and preventive maintenance of grounds equipment. Valid driver's license. Position requires operation of truck, utility vehicle, mowers, string trimmers, hand tools, and other grounds equipment. Must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, and dependable. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and public. Must be willing and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in herbicide application (turf and landscape or ROW) prefen-ed.
