Job Description: Wildlife Biologist - LTE

This position will assist the Wildlife Public Land Specialist in the administration of over 500,000 acres of Wildlife lands and game species habitat management. This position works under the direction of the Public Land Specialist. This position collaborates with several internal DNR programs as well as federal and state agencies, constituent groups, conservation organizations, and the media on all aspects of the public lands program.

30% Assist with the management of public lands databases, including the land management system, WisFIRS (habitat types), pesticide reporting and accomplishment reporting. These databases track infrastructure, habitat inventory, and habitat accomplishments. Assist with updating policy, handbooks, and manual codes relating to public land administration and management

25% Coordinate partnership initiatives on public lands; Adopt a Wildlife Area program, Wildlife Area Friends groups, partnership agreements, etc. Administer volunteer training, recognition, and appreciation. Develop policy and procedures for volunteer training and work in coordination with other land management programs; legal, safety, etc. Help document, market and promote these activities in coordination with communication staff.

25% Assist with the review and updating information on over 200 wildlife areas presented on agency website including maps associated with wildlife properties, closed areas, and leases. Annually update any static maps of key wildlife land resources utilizing GIS software. Assure that these data are properly transferred to appropriate web based displays, administrative rules and plans.

20% Assist with coordinating and supporting interdisciplinary alignment implementation teams for habitat management and property management. Develop systems for tracking accomplishments. Represent the Wildlife program on habitat based teams such as invasive species prioritization, habitat monitoring protocols, farming, and others as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of wildlife and public land management principles and terminology
- Attention to detail with proven organizational skills
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Suite applications
- Experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. in Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Management or closely related field
- Experience with mapping and analysis using ESRI ArcGIS software
- Experience with public land management activities
- Experience writing in different formats; public communication, meeting summaries, planning documents etc.
