Job Description: Laborer - LTE

The Lower Wisconsin State Riverway is a 92-mile long property stretching across the counties of Columbia, Sauk, Dane, Iowa, Richland, Grant, and Crawford. There is a total of 17 boat landings to maintain, 23 miles of Department road, 100 parking lots, several miles of trail, and several other public use facilities. These positions will be used to perform facility improvement projects by mowing grass, removing trees, pruning bushes, repairing livestock fences, pickup up litter, hauling garbabe, cleaning public use areas, and maintaining roadways.

50% Perform site maintenance on assigned use area sites, including boat access sites, parking areas, and trails. Includes seasonal dock placement and removal, mowing, trimming brush, trash pickup/removal, plow/shovel for winter access, develop and maintain public use facilities, cleaning restrooms, fill and grade parking areas and roads, patch blacktop and maintain culverts and shoulders, and prepare reports.

25% Coordinate, operate and/or direct the safe use of equipment for public use area maintenance, including 4WD pickups, farm tractors and implements, skid steers, riding lawn mowers, pumps and small engines, ATV's, boats, chainsaws, and brushsaws. Maintain equipment in safe working condition and coordinate repairs as needed for safe operation.

10% Other state property maintenance: maintain walking trails- including mowing, weed whipping, trimming, removal of hazard trees, posting boundaries, survey property boundaries, and identify trespass issues.

10% Visitor Services. Answer questions and disseminate information about property facilities and recreational opportunities and Department programs.

5% Non-routine Work Activities. Assist other Department functions and agencies to best utilize staff resources. Perform non-routine duties as required for the efficient operation of the properties.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Skills and knowledge of general and preventive maintenance duties including grounds work and construction skills.
- Training or experience in vehicle operations including 4-wheel drive, tractors, and trailers.
- A valid Wisconsin drivers license, a minimum of two years driving experience, and minimum 18 years of age required.
- Experience using hand and power tools including chainsaws.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be able to work alone with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work outside in difficult weather conditions.
