Job Description: Parks and Recreation Specialist - LTE

This position is responsible for a combination of outdoor maintenance/grounds keeping work in addition to providing customer service for property visitors/campers at the entrance station.

40% Under the supervision and direction of the property manager, independently take the lead on and/or assist on inventorying and controlling invasive species. Assist in planning and establishing invasive species control work as outlined in the property's invasive management plan. Manipulate and control invasive species mechanically, manually and chemically. Help coordinate volunteer efforts related to invasive species control.

30% Maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards to include mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches, painting, maintaining restrooms and campsites, remove trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and light equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.

10% Direct other team members and assist in dissemination of information. Work at entrance stations, campgrounds or other visitor contact stations. Use computerized reporting systems. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific properties, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, trails and campground availability.

5% Maintain and develop accurate records and develop monthly work reports.

5% Facilitate public programs and assist with staff training related to invasive species. Use appropriate media to communicate Department objectives relating to invasive species.

5% Explain State Park rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events. Manage the Park and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

5% Assist the Park Manager and/or Property Superintendent with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers and any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Due to equipment usage, you must have a valid regular operator's license; a minimum of two years licensed driving experience and must be at least 18 years of age. You must not have received an OWI or DUI violation within the past year, or three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the last two years.
- Candidate should be familiar with equipment operation and maintenance including UTV's, chainsaws, power tools, mowers, tractors and other motorized vehicles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow verbal and written instructions and organize and prioritize workload.
- Capable of physical tasks such as bending, pulling and lifting, and ability to work in a variety of weather and conditions.
- Knowledge or ability to learn invasive management techniques and ability to identify plants in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public
- Prior customer service and rule enforcement experience
- Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance operations
- Prior experience leading and directing the work of others
- Knowledge of computer based programs to enter expenses, monthly reports and work time.
- Ability to obtain pesticide applicators certification or have certification
- Ability to work a modified schedule as needed; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
