Job Description: Assistant Naturalist Guide - LTE

Assistant Naturalist's conduct property interpretive and education programs to interpret property natural and cultural resources, teach outdoor skills, and encourage resource stewardship. Market and promote property interpretive and education programs and management messages through promotional materials, media relations and other outreach methods. Develop and/or assist in developing interpretive and education programs for the property; may assist in conducting teacher-training classes. Plan, develop and evaluate publications, audio-visual programs, displays, program aids, exhibits, and other non-personal services. Greet visitors, collect fees and disseminate information at the visitor center. Hours vary; must be able to work up to 40 hours per week (weekdays and up to three weekends per month April through October, and some evenings possible).

55% Conduct property interpretive and education programs to interpret property natural and cultural resources, teach outdoor skills, and encourage resource stewardship.

15% Market and promote property interpretive and education programs and management messages through promotional materials, media relations and other outreach methods.

15% Develop and/or assist in developing interpretive and education programs for the property; may assist in conducting teacher-training classes.

10% Plan, develop and evaluate publications, audio-visual programs, displays, program aids, exhibits, and other non-personal services.

5% Greet visitors, collect fees and disseminate information at the visitor center.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public.
Vast knowledge of Wisconsin's Natural Resources including the state's recreation opportunities, environment, and wildlife.
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual.
Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior work experience in Interpretation.
Prior work experience in Customer Service.
Prior work experience with State Parks or Forests.
