Job Description: Natural Resources Educator - LTE

Serve as a natural resources educator at the Horicon Marsh International Education Center. This position will assist the education team with the development and implementation of nature based programming for all ages. Programs will focus on the property's natural features, flora, wildlife and management issues.

40% Develop new interpretive and outdoor education programs and improve existing programs for use at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. Programs include both indoor and outdoor hands-on activities and A/V presentations and will be developed for specific audiences including the general public, elementary and middle school students.

25% Organize a volunteer naturalist program and train volunteers to assist in conducting education programs for organized school field trips and outdoor education programs.

15% Develop programs and materials for workshops, demonstrations and large special events.

10% Develop indoor displays and education program brochures and pamphlets for the Education Center to provide public information and increase participation in education programs and events.

10% Develop and improve outdoor interpretive signage, displays and kiosks seasonally.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of general principles of general ecology, wildlife ecology and wildlife management
- Use of wildlife and habitat monitoring procedures and field equipment
- Knowledge of childhood development and learning theories, lesson plan and curriculum development
- Knowledge of major environmental educational program approaches (Project Wild, Project WET, Flying WILD, etc.); outdoor education teaching techniques and principles of outdoor interpretation

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet/data management and communication software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with publication layout and design, graphic design, and use of standard graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign/ Photoshop/Illustrator.
- Ability to work independently, be a team player, and be a motivated, self-starter
- Ability to work with a wide range of people and attitudes.
