Job Description: Heavy Equipment Operator

The Northern Highland American Legion State Forest is hiring seasonal staff to work on our boat landing and water trails crew. This crew helps us to maintain our 109 water campsites and over 100 boat landing sites, in addition to other projects across the forest.

100% Inspect, maintain and repair facilities on public use areas. Safe operation of equipment to include: pulp loader truck (requires CDL), skid steer, tractor, chain saws and line striper. Responsible for daily service and safety inspections of equipment. Construct, install and repair boarding docks, access ramps and kiosks. Conduct light to heavy landscaping activities including mowing, removing brush, cutting trees, and soil and gravel work. Conduct property inspections of access sites, pursuant to manual code. Provide effective public relations and provide information to the public.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs and assemble dock sections
- Possess a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License with Class A, B, D endorsement with fewer than 3 moving violations in the last 2 years and no DUI / DWI within the past 12 months; and have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience, and must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to operate a variety of light and heavy landscaping equipment including skid steer, tractor, chain saws, and line striper
- Must be punctual and be able to work independently when assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and to follow a work plan with minimal day-to-day supervision
- Able to communicate effectively with others
- Be team oriented and assist other programs as needed.
