Job Description: Wildlife Technician - LTE

This position will assist the wildlife management team in the Pike Lake work unit with property management, maintenance and daily operations of equipment, biological monitoring of game species and stocking pheasants on public lands.

20% Assist with the maintenance of equipment including farm tractors, forestry mowers, skid-steers with mower attachments, chainsaws, ATVs, small engines, pumps, hand tools, and personal protective equipment.

50% Assist with the establishment and maintenance of native and introduced grasslands and wetland communities. This includes tilling and planting grasslands; maintaining dikes and water control structures; removing invasive plants and brush through mowing, manual pulling or by herbicide applications and removing brush and fencerows on wildlife properties by mowing, chainsaws and herbicide application.

15% Assist with pheasant stocking on public lands in the Pike Lake area.

10% Conduct required wildlife surveys. Assist with waterfowl and dove banding, summer deer and game bird observations

5% Complete daily office activities such as completing time sheets, truck books, expense vouchers.

Knowledge Required: Candidates for this position should have a working knowledge of wildlife management techniques pertaining to common Wisconsin habitat types. They should be familiar with equipment operation and maintenance including ATVs, boats, chainsaws and tractors. The candidate should be familiar with wildlife survey and biological monitoring techniques. They should be familiar with mapping and location of property lines and monuments. Candidates are required to have a driver's license and the willingness to acquire a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon being hired.
