Job Description: Natural Resources Research Scientist Senior- LTE

The Forest Economic Analyst with the Bureau of Forest Management, Sciences Section, serves as an expert on forest economics issues for the Division and the Department. The position will assist with the collection and analysis of forest economic data and communications, including regular preparation of forest economic fact sheets and sharing of findings with internal and external stakeholders. Duties will include the use of input-output models (primarily IMPLAN) to evaluate the effect of the forest industry in the state. Additional duties may include maintaining current understanding of the forest economics literature through literature reviews, preparing written reports, and providing oral presentations on forest economics.

50% Use of Input-Output Models to evaluate impacts of the forest industry in the state
* Conduct IMPLAN queries on forest products industry by county
* Use IMPLAN to analyze economic situations, simulate policy and make forecasts for the forest products industry

30% Synthesize information and communicate findings
* Develop relevant communication materials and trainings for internal staff and external partners.
* Regular preparation of forest economics fact sheets

15% Assist with data collection, analysis, and modeling to support management decisions
* Assist with forest growth and yield modeling
* Identify existing data and carry out relevant literature reviews

5% Project coordination
* Coordinate meetings with internal staff and external partners,
* Develop project timelines and goals, participate and take notes to share with project team members and partners.

Knowledge Required:

* Knowledge of forest economics and forest products industry in Wisconsin
* Interest in working with IMPLAN, coursework or background in statistics and economics
* Being inquisitive, curious and resourceful.
* The ability to effectively cooperate and collaborate with others to accomplish a shared goal
* Positive attitude and the ability to complete high quality work and adhere to a timeline with little supervision.
* Preference for applicants with a degree in Forest Economics.

***NOTE*** This position is for 20 hours/week. We plan to hire one person to fill both this position and the Forester-Senior position (Job ID 11660) to work a total of 40 hours/week. If interested, please apply for both positions.
