Job Description: Wildlife Technician - LTE

This position will assist staff in the Oshkosh Area out of the Berlin Field office with mechanical and chemical control of brush invading grasslands and woodlands on wildlife and fisheries properties in Waushara, Waupaca, Green Lake and Marquette Counties. Other duties will include winter mowing of fire breaks, mowing of new and established grasslands , parking area maintenance, property boundary posting, wildlife refuge area posting, and hazard tree removal. Assist with project sign repair/replacement/painting. Assist with native seed cleaning using a hammer mill and fan mill.

55% Control of woody vegetation on grassland fields, oak savannas, sedge meadows by chainsawing, mowing and/or herbicide application to reduce woody vegetation in established prairies and to eliminate the brush component in the oak savannas and sedge meadows on state wildlife and fisheries properties in Waushara, Waupaca, Green Lake and Marquette Counties. Control of exotic herbaceous and woody plants with mowing and/or herbicide application on public lands in the Oshkosh Area.

15% Prepare firebreaks by mowing on wildlife areas and fisheries areas in Waushara, Waupaca, Green Lake and Marquette Counties.

15% Complete mowing and maintenance of parking lots on wildlife and fisheries areas in the Oshkosh Area, focusing on Green Lake, Marquette, Waushara and Waupaca Counties. Assist with property boundary posting, parking lot posting, and refuge boundary posting.

5% Assist with project sign repair/painting/replacement. Work includes making new project signs by routing letters in lumber, painting letters and lumber. Assist with native seed cleaning by running hammer mill and fan mill. Assist with packing and labeling seed for storage through the winter.

10% Complete truck books, time sheets, and expense vouchers. Assist with maintenance of field operation buildings and equipment.

Knowledge Required: Successful candidate must have chainsaw safety certification, ATV, tractor and skid-steer certification. Successful candidate must have a working knowledge of computer programs Excel, Word, and computer based programs for providing information on expenses and vehicle use. A Commercial driver's license is preferred, but is not necessary for employment.
