Job Description: Water Resources Management Specialist - LTE

This position provides support for the Northeast Region Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) project manager for implementation of the Lower Fox River Basin TMDL and the development and implementation of the Upper Fox and Wolf River Basins TMDL, and Lakeshore TMDL.

40% Administrative duties: Assist TMDL project manager in data base searches, collection, and management; provide technical assistance and literature reviews to support TMDL activities; prepare public notices; assist in the development of handout materials; attend work group and outreach meetings to track attendance and take notes; keep files updated; coordinate with partners to establish and expand a volunteer monitoring program in the Upper Fox-Wolf TMDL, and expand the number of volunteer monitors and monitoring sites in the Lower Fox TMDL, and Lakeshore TMDL.

20% Outreach: Assist TMDL project manager in public outreach through regular updates of the TMDL website by working with DNR personnel or by obtaining administrator rights; prepare and maintain timeline of TMDL activities; coordinate outreach meeting logistics; assist TMDL project manager in preparation and coordination of information to and from the Monitoring, Outreach, and Agriculture committees; prepare draft planning documents and reports. Assist in the development of educational materials and fact sheets for internal and external communication. Serve as outreach committee chair for Lower Fox, and possibly Upper Fox and Wolf and Lakeshore TMDLs.

20% Grants: Research grant opportunities and draft grant applications for continued funding for monitoring and implementation activities; assist TMDL project manager in tracking grant activities; help prepare grant reporting documents.

10% Field Work: Organize and/or complete supplemental monitoring if needed. Provide support for volunteer monitoring activities by training volunteers, disseminating equipment & materials, and conducting split sampling for quality assurance.

10% Other: Other duties as directed by supervisor.

Knowledge Required: Well qualified candidates will have strong experience in administrative support including data management, coordination of meeting logistics, coordination of committees/work groups, web site updating, grant research and grant writing, development of education outreach materials, and coordinating volunteer activities. Candidate should have strong written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in stream monitoring preferred but not required.
