Job Description: FORESTRY SPECIALIST-LTE
The UFA Outreach Specialist facilitates awareness and use of urban forest inventory data to accomplish state and local urban forest goals. This positions is supervised by the Urban Forestry Team Leader and under guidance of the Urban Forestry Policy & Partner Specialist. The position provides training and tools to assist clients in quantifying their urban forest composition, structure and canopy goals. The position works to integrate UFA data with existing urban forestry program and demographic information to help the UF Team prioritize allocation of staff, resources and actions to accomplish Strategic Direction goals. This position implements methods to effectively communicate to decision-makers the benefits and services provided by their urban tree infrastructure, and plays a key role in assisting communities in utilizing UFA data and tools to advance their level of urban forestry management. Occasional travel within the state is required.


50% Expand Urban Forest Assessment (UFA) capability and use internally & externally * Point of contact for UF Team with i-Tree and Urban Forest Assessment * Gather assessment needs of various user groups * Assist UF Team develop and analyze UFA attribute measures * Serve as a UF Team representative on the UFA Technical Team * Keep current on the available UFA data and tools and their application * Consult with staff and partners on ways to integrate UFA into their practices, to solve specific urban forest management questions or goals.

40% Communicate the value of urban forest benefits and services * Maintain UFA web content * Provide training to staff and clientele on data and analysis tools available to accomplish their goals * Provide outreach to existing and new partners and groups * Provide performance results and success stories for internal and external use * Provide updates and solicit feedback from UF Council on UFA program items

10% Statewide urban forestry project assistance

Knowledge Required: Applicants must be able to demonstrate that, upon appointment, the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the tasks have been acquired. Examples include: * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Access. * Working knowledge of remotely sensed data. * Training in GIS or related field, including ability to share GIS data information to staff and partners. * Education and/or experience in urban forestry, arboriculture, horticulture or related field. * Experience delivering training to diverse groups. * Knowledge of customer service concepts & strategies with strong problem solving skills. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with teams and a diverse group of customers.
