Twin Falls Flowage, in the Pine River Watershed, is a 569.64 acre lake that falls in Florence County. This lake is managed for fishing and swimming and is currently considered impaired.

A medium hard water drainage lake (impoundment) on the Menominee River, having neutral, light brown water of moderate transparency. Littoral materials consist of sand (70 percent), rubble (15 percent), boulders (10 percent) and gravel. The shoreline is entirely upland consisting of mixed conifers and hardwoods. A diversified fish population exists consisting of northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, perch, bluegill, black crappie, rock bass, pumpkinseed, white sucker, burbot and forage species. Waterfowl make moderate use of this impoundment. Public access is restricted to navigable water via the Menominee River, however, an access site and campground is maintained by the Wisconsin-Michigan Power Company for public use. There are also 2 resorts and 5 dwellings on the shoreline.

Monitoring the condition of a river, stream, or lake includes gathering physical, chemical, biological, and habitat data. Comprehensive studies often gather all these parameters in great detail, while lighter assessment events will involve sampling physical, chemical and biological data such as macroinvertebrates. Aquatic macroinvertebrates and fish communities integrate watershed or catchment condition, providing great insight into overall ecosystem health. Chemical and habitat parameters tell researchers more about human induced problems including contaminated runoff, point source dischargers, or habitat issues that foster or limit the potential of aquatic communities to thrive in a given area. Twin Falls Flowage is located in the Pine River watershed which is 342.57 mi². Land use in the watershed is primarily forest (69.50%), wetland (24.80%) and a mix of open (3.20%) and other uses (2.60%). This watershed has 348.02 stream miles, 6,893.46 lake acres and 35,145.32 wetland acres.
