Fish and Aquatic Life
Beverly Lake, in the Couderay River Watershed, is a 17.43 acre lake that falls in Sawyer County. This lake is managed for fishing and swimming and is currently not considered impaired.

A soft water, drainage lake on Swift Creek, it has a fish
population of muskellunge, northern pike, largemouth bass and
panfish. The rock bluffs on the north and south sides of the lake
present a scenic and interesting geologic formation. The main
feeder, Swift Creek, is a trout stream while the small spring inlet
on the left has only minnows. From the outlet of the lake to
Couderay River, Swift Creek is not considered trout water. The
estimated normal outlet flow is 5.5 cfs. The lake's depth drops
off sharply from the shoreline and bottom types are mainly coarse
gravel and boulder. An alder marsh on the west end and a fresh
meadow on the east shore provides nesting habitat for ducks and
beaver are also present on the lake and in Swift Creek. The lake
has no private development and the entire shoreline is in Dept. of
Natural Resources ownership. There is an access road on the
southeast shore that has limited parking.

Waters that do not meet water quality standards are considered impaired and restoration actions are planned and carried out until the water is once again fishable and swimmable

Monitoring the condition of a river, stream, or lake includes gathering physical, chemical, biological, and habitat data. Comprehensive studies often gather all these parameters in great detail, while lighter assessment events will involve sampling physical, chemical and biological data such as macroinvertebrates. Aquatic macroinvertebrates and fish communities integrate watershed or catchment condition, providing great insight into overall ecosystem health. Chemical and habitat parameters tell researchers more about human induced problems including contaminated runoff, point source dischargers, or habitat issues that foster or limit the potential of aquatic communities to thrive in a given area. Beverly Lake is located in the Couderay River watershed which is 212.25 mi². Land use in the watershed is primarily forest (64.90%), wetland (13.50%) and a mix of open (12.90%) and other uses (8.70%). This watershed has 211.96 stream miles, 18,300.76 lake acres and 14,697.69 wetland acres.

This watershed is ranked Low for runoff impacts on streams, High for runoff impacts on lakes and Low for runoff impacts on groundwater and therefore has an overall rank of Low.
