North Fork Beaver Creek TWA 2014

Purpose

This Targeted Watershed Assessment (TWA) will be conducted in the North Fork Beaver Creek HUC12 watershed. The North Fork Beaver Creek has had previous watershed level surveys, and since then BMP have been installed in the watershed. This TWA will help in evaluating if these BMPs have had an impact on stream health. This TWA approach will result in 8 sites being surveyed; including the pour point of the watershed which will have additional sampling.

Objective

This TWA approach will result in 8 sites being surveyed; including the pour point of the watershed which will have additional sampling.

Study Design

The North Fork Beaver Creek TWA will consist of fIBI, mIBI surveys, total phosphorus samples, and qualitative habitat surveys done at 8 sites. One of these sites, the pour point of the HUC 12, will also receive six growing season TP samples, along with one time nitrogen series, total suspended solids and chloride samples. All sites will also have a continuous temperature sensor installed to monitor summer water temperatures. HUC12 - 70400071102

North Fork Beaver Creek [HUC12]
This Targeted Watershed Assessment (TWA) will be conducted in the North Fork Beaver Creek HUC 12 watershed. The North Fork Beaver Creek has had previous watershed level surveys, and since then Best Management Practices (BMPs) have been installed in the watershed. This TWA will help in evaluating if these BMPs have had an impact on stream health. This TWA approach will result in 8 sites being surveyed; including the pour point of the watershed where a WAV volunteer will collect six growing season TP samples.
This Targeted Watershed Assessment (TWA) will address needs for baseline water quality monitoring of the North Branch Beaver Creek Watershed. In 2014, Water Action Volunteers stream monitors were asked to assist in the monitoring process by collecting water samples. The TWA will hopefully provide enough information in order to evaluate the watershed for total phosphorus levels, update water body assessment status (i.e. future monitoring for 303(d)), make management recommendations, and update water body and watershed narratives in WATERS.
