East Branch Rock River TWA 2014 Heim

Purpose

Monitor the status of streams from one HUC 12 subwatersheds in the East Branch Rock River watershed to prioritize future watershed projects. There is currently very limited data in this watershed. There is also a point source WWTP discharge that may use adaptive management or nutrient trading and the information collected may be useful for them to pursue one of those options. The six sites in the HUC 12 will be identified later. This HUC 12 has been identified in the TMDL as a sub watershed with high nutrient and sediment loadings to the Rock River. This HUC 12 has been identified in the TMDL as a subwatershed with high nutrient and sediment loadings to the Rock River.

Objective

The information will be used to identify areas of the HUC 12 that are considered to be the most important to work on for watershed improvement and to meet water quality standards. An inventory needs to be completed to determine where the highest concentrations of nutrients may be coming from. Phosphorus, nitrogen and SS data will be collected at 10 different sites throughout the watershed. The sites will be identified with input from Dodge County Land and Water Conservation Dept. Sampling will occur from May 1 - Oct. 31st on a monthly basis and for significant rain/runoff events. Approximately 8-10 samples should be taken at the 10 different sites.

Outcome

Fisheries, habitat, and macroinvertebrate data will be collected on 6 sites in the targeted HUC 12s. Data will be entered into the FH database and SWIMS. Updated streams narratives and watershed reports will be entered into SWIMS and WATERS.

Study Design

Fish, qualitative habitat, and macroinvertebrates will be collected from 10 sites in HUC 070900010106. In addition, one phosphorus sample will also be collected from each of the 10 sites identified and 6 phosphorous samples from the pour point of this HUC 12.
