Dodge Branch Stream Evaluation 2014

Purpose

In conjunction with the Southwest Grasslands State Conservation Area and Grassland Bird Conservation Area projects, water resources was asked to identify a water resource area that would be a priority in this area. Dodge Branch, an impaired stream with 5c status, fits nicely as an area of focus for cross-program interests. In 2010, Dodge Branch was monitored as part of the Pecatonica Pilot Project. That study provided information on fish, habitat, and water quality stressors for the system. This project would help augment information from this preliminary study and provide a more detailed and specific assessment of stream reaches and potential actions for rehabilitation.

Objective

Provide preliminary information to determine management actions which will lead to improvement of the stream and removal from the state's list of impaired waters.

Outcome

Fish assemblage, qualitative habitat information will be collected on 10 sites along Dodge Branch. Phosphorus samples will be collected at 6 sites along Dodge Branch including upstream and downstream of Dodgeville and Hollandale WWTPs. This information will be compiled in a report and used to help guide remedial actions in the watershed.

Study Design

Fish, qualitative habitat information will be collected from 10 sites along Dodge Branch. Fish and Habitat data will be entered into the FH database. Water chemistry data will be entered into SWIMS. Reports will be captured in SWIMS and WATERS.
