UNIFIED LOWER EAGLE RIVER CHAIN OF LAKES COM: Eagle River Chain of Lakes AIS Project, Phase 4 (2014-2015)

The Unified Lower Eagle River Chain of Lakes Commission (ULERCLC) is sponsoring an AIS control grant on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes, in Vilas County. This is the sixth phase of an AIS control project that will focus on EWM management, AIS education, prevention and monitoring. The goal is to reduce the treatable EWM to half its current size and allow the ULERCLC to continue management of AIS on its own. Project activities include: 1) Annual chemical treatments and manual removal of EWM; 2) Annual Pre/Post treatment monitoring and analysis; 3) Annual volunteer AIS and herbicide concentration monitoring; 4) PL mapping and control; 5) Early-season AIS and peak biomass EWM surveys; 6) Stakeholder participation: budget and grant meeting and project status/informational meeting; 7) Develop management strategy (working with UW Ext) to protect native plants; 8) Develop annual project report and a final report. Project deliverables include: 1) Chemical and manual removal of EWM and PL; 2) Pre/post treatment survey and monitoring data; 3) Native plant protection strategy; 4) AIS educational, prevention and monitoring activities; 5) Final report summarizing EWM management during project and future EWM management suggestions, AIS monitoring and AIS educational activities. Specific Conditions for this project: Annual reports and final report need Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of final report, all annual reports, pre and post treatment survey, early-season and peak biomass data, native plant protection strategy, samples of educational and outreach products, all maps from project, all GIS data, and aquatic plant vouchers.
