MILWAUKEE COUNTY PARKS: AIS Inven Milw Co Park System

Purpose

The Milwaukee County Parks Department will hire a seasonal employee in the summers of 2013 and 2014 to sample, map and identify the exotic species present in 51 county park lagoons and 10.6 miles of the Lake Michigan shoreline. The sampling will follow the WDNR Early Detection standard protocol, and will include 3 meander surveys at each pond, 3 times a summer. 26 ponds will be sampled each summer. Traps will be set to collect crayfish. Lake Michigan will be sampled following project RED protocols. Two reports will be prepared, one for each sampling season. The project deliverables include 1) GIS data in a map file showing locations sampled and species found; 2) entry into the statewide SWIMS database; and 3) reports (2013 and 2014) showing maps of sites sampled, tables with species looked for, tables with species found, a description of the methods used to sample, the dates sampled and overall findings. The DNR will be provided with two paper copies and an electronic copy of the yearly reports.
