Milwaukee Wildlife Population Target Refinement

This project will identify the “best-case bookends” to understand what the system was like so that once baseline monitoring occurs, a suitable remedial level for wildlife can be accurately determined.

In order to delist the use impairment for degradation of wildlife populations within the Milwaukee Estuary AOC, it is necessary to determine the appropriate targets that must be achieved for delisting. The first step is to evaluate historical data and gaps to define the best case bookends needed to determine suitable targets for wildlife populations. Note that by examining historical conditions in the AOC, it is NOT the intent of this project to suggest that we achieve those conditions again before removal of impairments can occur. Rather, understanding historical conditions (i.e., best-case conditions) and worst-case conditions will help us determine a suitable “C-level condition” for wildlife in the AOC. Hence, this methodology is commensurate with the remedial goals of the AOC program. The Milwaukee Environmental Consortium is responsible for ensuring that the products (deliverables) outlined in this scope of work are provided as identified in the timetable.
