Proposed NER Geisel Creek and Shivering Sands Creek initial impairment assessment
Return to Search
This project is to collect additional data from Geisel Creek and Shivering Sands Creek to determine if the waterbodies are impaired. The Dunes Lake Partnership has collected significant water quality data in these streams as part of the Dunes Lake watersed assessment. Total phosphorus data exceed water quality standards. This project would supplement those data by collecting supporting biological information. Together, the streams could be fully assessed for impairment determination.
Data collected on Geisel Creek (WBIC 97400) and Shivering Sands Creek (WBIC 97200) will be used to assess if biological data support listing these waterbodies as impaired. Macroinvertebrate samples, fish surveys, and habitat assessments will be conducted at two locations on Geisel Creek above Dunes Lake and one location on Shivering Sands Creek below Dunes Lake in 2013.
Fish and habitat assessments will be completed at two locations on Geisel Creek and one location on Shivering Sands Creek in August 2013. Macroinvertebrates will be collected at two locations on Geisel Creek and one location on Shivering Sands Creek in September 2013. I will enter all data into the SWIMS and FH database by December 2013. A final report will be prepared after the macroinvertebrate data comes back from the lab. I anticipate a final report to be uploaded to SWIMS by December 31, 2014.
