LINCOLN COUNTY: Tri-County Approach to Aquatic Invasives Management (Phase 2)

Purpose

Lincoln Co. Land Information and Conservation Dept. is sponsoring a project in partnership with Langlade and Forest Counties focusing on expanding the county AIS programs. Goals: 1) Expand citizen network and agency personnel interested in coordinating and implementing AIS prevention and control; 2) Create/expand AIS public awareness and education programs; 3) Provide technical assistance to lake associations and citizens related to AIS identification, mapping, removal and treatment; 4) Create and implement a countywide/regional plan to monitor and prevent new AIS infestations and minimize the spread of existing infestations. Project deliverables: 1) Strategic Planning/Reporting: a) final development and implementation of AIS strategic plan; b) annual project activity and accomplishment report. 2) Education: a) minimum of 6 CBCW and Citizen Lake Monitoring training sessions annually and provide 200 hours of CBCW inspections; b) minimum of 12 AIS presentations to lake association/districts; c) coordinate AIS activities with partners and volunteers; d) assist with AIS monitoring (PI surveys and GL Restoration Initiative); e) distribute AIS boat landing signs; f) work with law enforcement/water guards on cooperative AIS efforts. 3) Technical Assistance: a) provide monitoring assistance on a minimum of 10 lakes per year including lakes with new or existing infestations and could include hand pulling; b) participate in pre/post monitoring including herbicide treatment evaluation; c) provide information on AIS management, grants, encourage Lake Association formation. Specific conditions: 1) Final report and Strategic Plans need Department review and approval; 2) Enter all data into appropriate data bases; 3) Actively work with the Lakes Coordinator for the 3 county area. WDNR Lakes Coor. will be provided with electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of final report, annual reports, strategic plans, AIS action plan, and AIS information and educational products.
