Spring Brook Creek Ambient, Sediment (Antigo, Langlade Co.) WET

Purpose

Conduct acute and chronic testing on stormwater and/or ambient and sediment water quality in Spring Brook Creek (Antigo, Langlade Co.). Concern is over elevated PAH's discharging from an old manufactured gas plan in Antigo into Spring Brook (ambient and sediment). Acute and chronic testing is requested along with PAH monitoring. Sampling could occur in the summer or early fall. Two samples are requested (plus background site upstream). Three samples total. Sampling to occur in the summer or early fall 2011.

Outcome

There was no acute or chronic toxicity observed in the ambient toxicity tests. However, the sediments collected from Spring Brook Creek did have an impact on the survival of both sediment test species at site SED-02 (“City Gas South of 10th Ave.”). As noted in the conclusions section of the sediment report, lab staff noticed that the sediment from site SED-02 had a very strong oily smell and a visible oily sheen.
