POLK COUNTY LWRD: Giant & Japanese Knotweed Control in Polk & Burnett Counties

Purpose

Polk County Land and Water Resources Department in partnership with Burnett County Land and Water Conservation Department is sponsoring a multi-year early detection and response project that will monitor and manage pioneering populations of Japanese knotweed throughout the counties. Project activities include: 1) Community information and education specific to Japanese knotweed, including training volunteers on identification and control; 2) Identification, mapping, and management of pioneering colonies. Management may include multiple herbicide applications/methods and mowing; 3) Test seed viability and determine plant sex; 4) Follow-up monitoring of managed sites, including treatment efficacy evaluation. Project deliverables include: annual progress reports of educational outreach/training, monitoring, and management activities. Final project report integrating the annual progress reports with evaluation results and any educational materials developed. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, reports, and education materials, including GIS-based maps and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional lake coordinator.
