Monitor or Propose 303(d) Listing
Waterbodies Region Wide. WCR is submitting one Regional 303d stream monitoring project. Monitoring will primarily be completed in the Bad Axe LaCrosse, Lower Chippewa and Black Buffalo Trempealeau Basins. Monitoring will be completed following three priorities. 1) Monitoring will be completed at 15 sites on existing 303d streams including Trout Run, Halls Branch, Long Coulee, Johnson Coulee, Adams and Prince Creeks. These streams were identified by CO as having data gaps. Other streams on the list are not lacking recent fish or bug data but may not have recent habitat data. WCR is not surveying habitat at these sites but will conduct file reviews and determine if additional habitat data is needed to support the current listing.

In most cases, recent biological data from these sites confirms the streams are still impaired. 2) Impairment stream monitoring was not completed in 2010 due to the lack of LTEs hired for monitoring throughout the state. WCR staff assisted NOR complete Tier I and some Tier II monitoring and were unable to complete impairment monitoring. Impairment monitoring will be completed at 10 sites on four streams. Monitoring will include continuous temperature monitoring and quantitative habitat and fish surveys. 3) Initial 303d monitoring will be completed on streams identified during the 2010/2011 watershed planning review process as having poor and fair biological quality. WCR estimates initial 303d monitoring will be completed at 15 sites. Some streams have been identified for monitoring and more will be recommended once the watershed review process is complete.
