SER Otter Creek and Fisher Creek BMP Implementation Study

SER staff will conduct field monitoring on ten stream sites within Otter Creek and Fisher Creek Watersheds to determine if implementation of BMPs on rural land use improves the water quality and biological integrity of Otter Creek. Fisher Creek Watershed will serve as a control for the study with no BMP implenetation. Fish and benthic macroinvertebrate communities, and stream habitat surveys will be conducted for this study. Monitoring will be done pre (year 1) and post (year 5) BMP implementation. This project budget is for the Year 1 budget.

Project Justification: Reducing nonpoint source runoff and associated pollutants would help remove Otter Creek from the Impaired Waters List. Also, successful design and installation of BMPs on a watershed scale could serve as a model for future projects.

Performance Measures: 1) Number of sample sites associated with the project. Ten (10). 2) Number of sampling events associated with project. Total of 40. 3) Estimated date when sample collection will be complete for the first year of monitoring is November 15th, 2011 4) Estimated date when all data will be entered into appropriate database for first year of monitoring is March 30th, 2012 5) Estimated date when fist year monitoring report will be complete June 30th, 2012.
