Little Sugar River Watershed Assessment SCR_08_CMP12

Purpose

Monitor the contemporary status of streams in the Little Sugar River watershed as well as evaluate the overall health of watershed. The department needs current fish and macroinvertebrate data for streams in this watershed. This data is necessary to determine whether these streams are achieving their attainable use in order to update the watershed tables, list waters that are not meeting their attainable use, and assess the overall health of the watershed as required by Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act. This project will use a combination of randomly selected and targeted sites on streams within the watershed for this purpose.

Objective

Data gathered for this project will be used to update the watershed plan and streams narratives in the State of the Basin report. It will also be used update information related to impaired waters listings and determine if there are any streams that need follow up monitoring for listing purposes.

Outcome

Fisheries assessments will be completed on 22 sites in the Little Sugar River watershed. Macroinvertebrate samples will be taken on 17sites. Data will be collected during the calendar year 2011. Data will be entered into the FM database and SWIMS. Updated streams narratives and watershed reports will be entered into SWIMS and WATERS.

A final report of the assessment of water quality in the Little Sugar RIver Watershed (SP-14) based on monitoring conducted in 2011. Waters included are: Little Sugar River, Burgy Creek, Elmer School Branch, Hefty Creek, Legler School Branch, Silver School Branch, Spring Valley Creek and West Branch Little Sugar River. This report is in fullfilment of project SCR08_12.
