Manitowoc County Lake Association proposes to conduct education, prevention and planning activities to control and prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) into and from Manitowoc County during the period 2010 - 2013. The project elements and deliverables are specified in Manitowoc County Lake Association's Aquatic Invasive Species Grant application, dated January 28, 2010. The project includes; partnering with the Project RED Program for the purpose of monitoring for invasive species along river corridors; facilitating discussions and training public officials and right-of-way managers on AIS issues and eradication; conducting AIS educational opportunities via bus tours, booths, outreach at youth events and public meetings; hosting educational activities to train volunteers on monitoring and prevention methods; and producing a professional level map of AIS in county. Annual progress reports and a final report summarizing the three-year project will be provided to DNR. If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended the Grantee provide the DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee's final payment request.

An interesting outreach tool from Manitowoc County. These signs will be placed along the local highway leading up to the launch. Signs will be rotated twice a year between boat landings, to keep the message fresh. the language was developed by some of the Lake Associations. By having lake association involvement, the signs reflect a user point of view and encouraged their buy in.
