WAUSHARA COUNTY: LCO-Waushara County Lake Classification Project

Purpose

Waushara "County proposes to conduct a phased lake class project leading to implementation; this scope is for Phase 1. The ultimate purpose of this study is to provide long term benefits to the community by protecting and improving water quality and habitat in and near Waushara County lakes. Efforts will lead to a County-wide Lake Management Plan that will drive the development of lake specific planning and subsequent implementation. This is a 3 phase project leading up to implementation in phase 4. Phase 1 - Includes 2 primary objectives: Lake plan appraisals on 97 lakes; 31 w/ public access; and Shore zone appraisals on 31 public access lakes. Objective 1- An inventory and appraisal of the status of current lake management plans within the county: Content evaluation - criteria for implementation; status of plan actions/development - stage of completion and efficacy; appraisal of management capacity and partnerships; appraisal of financial viability; and appraisal of need for planning (for lakes w/o plans). Objective 2 - An appraisal of shoreline and shore land conditions on a suite of lakes: Identify and inventory natural features and critical habitat; characterize lake development status; and identify, inventory, and prioritize erosion, sediment/nutrient delivery sites. Deliverables will include a status Report for Lake Management Plans and ppraisal Report of Shore Zone Condition.
