South Fork Flambeau River CBSM Project [NOR_05_11]

Purpose

The South Fork Flambeau River Watershed Association has been conducting a variety of monitoring on the South Fork Flambeau River over the past few years, including water chemistry, bacteriological, macroinvertebrate, and D.O., pH, transparency, and temperature monitoring. They are interested in expanding the data base for the watershed by doing water chemistry and bacteriological sampling of 5 tributaries of the South Fork Flambeau River. Five sites would be sampled on 5 dates (see lab budget for parameter list). Field tests for D.O., pH, transparency, and temperature will also be made. Researchers are also interested in documenting the status of shoreline development on the South Fork Flambeau River using a GPS camera that records locations of pictures taken. Development on the South Fork Flambeau River is increasing and shoreline development standards are often being ignored. Photo documentation would be used to make County officials and the public aware of the problems with development that are occurring.

Objective

Data on baseline conditions of South Fork Flambeau River tributaries is nearly zero. Monitoring would provide baseline data. Shoreline development standards are not being complied with. Making people aware of the situation will hopefully lead to compliance/ enforcement of standards.

Outcome

Performance Measures: These are milestones that will be reported on in the Division Quarterly Report. Please estimate dates in a manner that encourages success. 1) Number of sample sites associated with the project. 5 2) Number of sampling events associated with project. 5 3) Estimated date when sample collection will be complete. June 30, 2011 4) Estimated date when all data will be entered into appropriate database. Sept. 30, 2011 5) Estimated date when final report will be complete. April 30, 2012
