Watershed Plan Review North Fork Eau Claire River Watershed (LC17) - WCR01_11
Return to Search
Purpose
During the watershed review process, several small streams in the North Fork Eau Claire Watershed were identified as coldwater trout streams with little or no supporting data. It is believed that some of these streams were inappropriately classified as coldwater trout streams, or streams with trout potential, during the 1960's and 1970's. The proposed monitoring is to collect recent fish, macroinvertebrate, and continuous temperature data to evaluate each streams current and potential classifications.
Objective
The objective is to determine appropriate classification of the streams in the North Fork Eau Clair Watershed. The major objective is to avoid future listing errors to the 303d list due to misclassifications. Fisheries management will be consulted after data collection to help determine appropriate stream classifications.
Outcome
During the upcoming field season fish, macroinvertebrates, and temperature will be collected at 2 sites for each of the eight streams. Fish surveys will be completed during the summer months of 2010, Temperature loggers will be placed in streams in June and pulled in the fall. Macroinvertebrate samples will be collected in the fall when retrieving temperature loggers. Data will be entered in the winter of 2011. Management recommendations will be made following the analysis of the data.
