LAKESHORE NATURAL RESOURCES PARTNERSHIP INC.: Improving Water Quality in Southern Manitowoc County

Purpose

Lakeshore Natural Resources Partnership (LNRP) is sponsoring a project to support the Friends of Hika Bay (FOHB) as the group continues to build appreciation for, and stewardship of, the frontal watersheds in southern Manitowoc County. Specific project activities include: 1) FOHB will facilitate water quality sampling and analysis on 14 sample sites on Centerville Creek and 2 sample sites on Fischer, Point, Pine and Calvin Creeks in collaboration with the Lakeshore Water Institute at UWGB-Manitowoc campus. Students will compile a data report and present their findings at a public forum; 2) Hold park and beach clean-up events at Hika Park, Fischer Creek Park, and the Point Creek Natural Area. The Lake Michigan beach clean-ups will partner with the Alliance for the Great Lakes and data will become part of the Beach Clean-Up database; 3) Facilitate water quality outreach and education including letters to residents in the watershed, video recording of the student presentation, and drone video footage of Centerville Creek Watershed. Outreach material will be available to the public via newsletters and websites; 4) Annually review FOHB action plan and develop State of the Watershed updates; 5) FOHB will update it website; 6) FOHB will assist in the development of the local TMDL and 9KE plans by educating and engaging stakeholders throughout the community. Project final deliverables include: a final summary report which includes all activities completed during the grant period including all data collected, agendas and minutes for planning meetings, presentations, newsletters and educational materials provided to the public and all data entered into the SWIMS databases. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Rivers Biologist
