Lower Root River Racine Health Department WQ Sampling Partnership SER_05_09

Purpose

Project Description: The City of Racine Health Department will be conducting e-coli and additional water quality sampling on a weekly basis at 25 locations on the lower Root River in the City of Racine from May, 2008 until June, 2009. Proposing that the Department fund monthly Total P., Total Dissolved P., Nitrate-Nitrite, Ammonia, and Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen SLOH analysis (and associated shipping) from three locations within the City's study area for the project duration, starting in July, 2008.

Objective

The upper portion of the Root River is listed on the 303(d) list for Phosphorus. This data collection, in conjuction with another Special Project in the upper Root River, will serve to verify this 303(d) listing and document current nutrient levels in the lower and upper portions of the river. Additionally, as the City of Racine will already be conducting extensive wq monitoring, it is cost effective to have them conduct this sampling in conjunction with their other sampling events.

Outcome

1) Sample sites - 3 2) Sampling events - 12. 3) Date when sample collection will be complete - June, 2009. 4) Estimated date when all data will be entered into appropriate database - September, 2009. 5) Estimated date when final report will be complete - December, 2009.
