PurposeProject Description: The purpose of this project is to determine if the Pigeon River below the Village of Howards Grove should be classified as an impaired waterway. The Department received citizen complaints regarding the water quality of the Pigeon River in the summer of 2007. Staff observed significant algae and other aquatic plant growthin the area below Howards Grove during this time period. The proposed base flow monitoring of the Pigeon River in this vicinity will provide additional data and will allow for an evaluation of whether this segment of the Pigeon River should be classified as an impaired waterway. Water samples will be collected from two sites. A total of eight (8) samples will be collected from the Pigeon River during base flow from July through September. Instantaneous water quality, one diel DO in August, and stream flow will also be collected during each sample event.
ObjectiveProject Justification: The projest will help provide valuable information for SER staff to evaluate and determine if the Pigeon River downstream of the Village of Howards Grove should be classified as an impaired waterway.
