To cost-share design and installation of manure management and barnyard runoff practices to address farm operations not in compliance with the agricultural performance standards and prohibitions dealing with manure storage & nutrient management, clean water diversions, prevention of overflow from manure storage facilities, and prevention of direct runoff from a feedlot or stored manure into waters of the state under Subchapter II of NR 151.
The BARNY model estimates 109.9 lbs of phosphorus are delivered from the site to the surface water each (Iron Springs Creek). All clean water that enters the site will be diverted to avoid contact with animal waste. The native soil at the site will not meet NRCS specifications for the construction of a earthen manure storage structure. The manure contained in the manure storage will be utilized in a manner that meets the requirements established in NR151.07 and ATCP 50.04 (3).
All of the practices listed in the application were installed. The barnyard and related practices have resulted in a "zero runoff system." Clean water is now routed to completely avoid areas that contain manure. All manure laden water flows off the barnyard in to the manure storage facility.
