LAKESHORE CHAPTER OF TROUT UNLIMITED: Lakeshore TU Onion River Restoration

Purpose

The Lakeshore Chapter of Trout Unlimited is undertaking a project to conduct river cleanup, bank stabilization, trail placement, and habitat structure placement and repair on sections of the Onion River up and downstream of County Highway U in Sheboygan County. Project deliverables include: Printed and digital copy of a project summary report. Report shall include a summary of all activities conducted under this grant, including before and after photos and number of volunteer hours, as well as temperature data, and fish community sampling (to be conducted by DNR) results. Project activities include: 1) under guidance of DNR fisheries biologist, conduct brushing, tree removal, stream bank stabilization, coir matting installation and brush bundling on 950 feet of the Onion River downstream of CTH U. 2) under guidance of DNR fisheries biologist, repair or replace 26 identified damaged lunker structures north of CTH U. 3) under guidance of DNR fisheries biologist, install a minimum of 4 root wads, 16 half logs, 3 log drops, 4 log deflectors, and a minimum of 1 boom deflector (if resources allow) south of CTH U. 4) deploy three continuous temperature monitoring units in the project for the project period. Special Conditions: Along with the project report, include a summary of Education and Outreach activities conducted for the project. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Records, reports, and digital images must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional River Coordinator. If a consultant is to provide final report, it is recommended that Grantee provide DNR Rivers Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request.
