TROUT UNLIMITED INC: Enhancing Capacity for Continuous Streamflow Monitoring


The National Trout Unlimited organization is sponsoring a project to partner with the DNR to expand the collection of water quantity data at critical headwater streams in the Central Sands region of Wisconsin. Project final deliverables include: Lists and/or mapping application which identify gaps in streamflow data collection and a prioritization of streams for continuous flow monitoring. Increase the capacity of the citizen flow monitoring currently implemented in the Central Sands Area. Get the 2019 flow data into the DNR SWIMS database. A final report will be given to the DNR Water Use and Water Resources Sections on the project methods and results, including how the information was shared with partners and the public. Specific project activities include: 1. Develop the mapping application to prioritize flow monitoring locations by July 1st, 2019. 2. Identify 10 priority flow monitoring sites by August 1st, 2019. 3. Install 10 pressure transducers and temp loggers at 10 headwater locations by August 1st, 2019. 4. Recruit and train 3 volunteer teams to conduct the flow monitoring at 10 locations. 5. Upload continuous flow and temperature data into SWIMS by December 31st, 2019. 6. Final report describing the methods used to develop the volunteer monitoring program and the results of the monitoring efforts in 2019 by December 31st, 2019.
