WATERWAYS ASSOC. MENOMINEE & SHAWANO CTY: Capacity Building for WAMSCO

Purpose

Waterways Association of Menominee and Shawano County\2019s is sponsoring a capacity building and organizational development project. Project final deliverables include:1) Attend at least 10 community water and/or conservation events across the counties and distribute 500 informational handouts per year.2) 2 Board Members/Advisory Personnel to attend Wisconsin Lake Leaders Institute.3) Most of the 8-member WAMSCO Board to attend the Wisconsin Lakes Partnership Convention.4) WAMSCO to partner with a local school or youth organization to host a pilot, experiential educational water quality-focused summer program. Specific project activities include:1) Purchase of branded materials for distribution. Items shall optimize financial efficiency, item utility, and organizational exposure in served communities.2) Purchase a laptop, projector, and screen.3) Attendance of 2 Board Members to the Wisconsin Lake Leaders Institute.4) Board Member attendance to the annual Wisconsin Lakes Partnership Convention. Special Conditions:Local youth participation in a multi-day, experiential summer program organized by WAMSCO and local educators and co-taught by teachers, WAMSCO Board Members, County Land Conservation, WI DNR, and UW-Ex personnel, and other partners/volunteers. Proven curriculum adapted and utilized to educate youth on basic water quality and land management concepts pertinent to the area. Program to focus on water quality issues, such as aquatic habitats, water chemistry, nutrient loading, and residential and agricultural BMPs, through education/hands-on experiments/projects. Proven curriculums through UW-Extension, WI DNR, and others to be adapted and used throughout the program. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Biologist.
