Lakeshore Natural Resources Partnership (LNRP) is sponsoring a project to support the Friends of Hika Bay as the group continues to build appreciation for, and stewardship of, the frontal watersheds in southern Manitowoc County. Project final deliverables include: a final summary report which includes all activities completed during the grant period including all data collected, agendas and minutes for planning meetings, presentations, newsletters and educational materials provided to the public and all data entered into the SWIMS databases. Specific project activities include: 1) Facilitate water quality sampling and analysis on 14 sample sites on Centerville Creek and 2 sample sites on Fischer, Point, Pine and Calvin Creeks in collaboration with the Lakeshore Water Institute at UWGB-Manitowoc campus. Students will compile a data report and present their findings at a public forum; 2) Hold park and beach clean-up events at Hika Park, Fischer Creek Park, and the Point Creek Natural Area. The Lake Michigan beach clean-ups will partner with the Alliance for the Great Lakes and the data will become part of the Beach Clean-Up database; 3) Conduct a Project RED (Riverine Early Detectors) event in the watershed where data is entered into the statewide database; 4) Host three public educational seminars on issues in the watershed; 5) Annually review action plan and develop State of the Watershed updates. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Rivers Biologist.
