Upper Bad River Watershed TWA

Purpose

The biological communities of approximately 2 of the 5 HUC 12 watersheds of the Upper Bad River Watershed were previously monitored as part of a Local Needs Project in the Penokee Hills. This project is proposed to monitor additional sites throughout the HUC 10 watershed in order to complete a watershed report at the HUC 10 level. A map review suggests there are approximately 15-20 sites that should be monitored to assess the watershed. This project will likely extend for 2 years depending on staff availability.

Objective

Characterize the biological community and habitat of the Upper Bad River amd its tributaries. Water Chemistry samples will be collected for Nutrients, TSS, and field parameters and flow will be recorded at 2 sites on the Bad River. This project is located in in HUC10 0401030203.

Outcome

Data will be entered into SWIMS and the FHDB by Joe Cunningham for each field season. A final watershed report will be written and entered into SWIMS as a watershed planning report.

Study Design

There will be 2 water chemistry sites. One site in the headwaters of the Bad River, the other site just US of the confluence with Tyler Forks River. 6 samples will be collected monthly from May - October for each site. There will be 8 surveys for fish and qualitative habitat, and 8 macroinvertebrate samples collected using standard WDNR protocols. We will concentrate on 2 of the remaining HUC 12 areas. Other fish and habitat surveys will be completed as time allows
